Grinch Cookies!

I love everything about about Christmas, but watching a Christmas movie while munching on homemade cookies would have to be my very favourite holiday activity. And to make this year's favourite activity even more festive, I made a new cookie that's inspired by one of my favourite holiday movies, the Grinch Who Stole Christmas!

I've enjoyed matcha tea, a powdered green tea, in lattes for awhile but adding it to a batch of cookies is the perfect way to naturally dye my cookies a delightfully grinchy green. And simple pink piped hearts, three sizes too small, adds to the Who-ville experience in a way I know every single one of you will agree.

So get out your mixing bowls and cookie sheets to bake up a batch of what I think is going to turn into everyone's new holiday favourite - Grinch Cookies!

Grinch Cookies - makes about 36 cookies

1 cup flour
1 tablespoon matcha tea (powdered green tea available at Japanese grocers or specialty tea shops)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
Pink frosting, for decorating

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Sift matcha, flour, and salt in a small bowl and then add to the butter mixture until just combined.

4. Pat mixture into a circle and chill in the fridge for about an hour.

5. Cut out cookies into circles or grinchy hearts and place on a lined cookie sheet.

6. Bake for about 8-10 minutes, but watch carefully so the cookies don't brown. Half the fun is that these treats are grinchy green after all!

7. Let cookies cool and then pipe tiny hearts, three sizes too small, into the centre of each cookie.

Feel your heart grow as you share Grinch Cookies with friends!
